The Longboat Key Town Commission appointed Grand Bay resident Terry Gans to the at-large seat vacated July 5 by Hal Lenobel.

Gans was one of eight residents to submit résumés for the seat.

Commissioner Pat Zunz nominated Gans, whom Mayor Jim Brown voted for, as well.

Commissioner Phill Younger opened the vote by nominating Ray Rajewski, who had previously challenged Vice Mayor David Brenner and lost by just 90 votes. Commissioner Jack Duncan also voted for Rajewski.
Brenner nominated former Commissioner Randy Clair.

Commissioner Lynn Larson nominated former Commissioner and Planning & Zoning Board member Woody Wolverton.

With two candidates receiving two votes, the commission took a vote on Gans and Rajewski.

Duncan and Younger voted in favor of Rajewski, while the remaining candidates voted for Gans.

With Gans the winner, Younger moved to make the vote unanimous, which Duncan also supported.
Gans then took his oath of office, administered by Town Clerk Trish Granger.

Gans has lived on Longboat Key for seven years and has indicated that he is only interested in serving through March, when the term expires.
