Longboat Key Planning Zoning and Building Director Robin Meyer resigned this morning, effective immediately.

Meyer will receive three months’ severance pay, according to Town Manager Dave Bullock, who described Meyer’s departure as a resignation but said he determined severance “was appropriate in this situation.”

Bullock appointed town planner Alaina Ray to lead the department in the interim.

When asked if anything led up to his resignation this afternoon, Meyer said, "Nope. I just resigned. That's it. Sometimes you need to make changes."

The Longboat Observer asked Meyer Tuesday morning in his office before he submitted his resignation to Bullock to give a status update on the Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub project. Meyer said: “We're still working on it. But it appears the site plan exception is expired and the applicant will have to resubmit.”

Meyer, 62, assumed the role of PZB director in May 2012, after the town selected him from a pool of 62 candidates who applied for the position following the resignation of former PZB director Monica Simpson.

He left behind his position as St. Lucie County assistant director of growth/management/building and code regulation manager for the Longboat Key position.

Meyer had indicated that he intended to be employed by the town for a minimum of five years based on satisfactory work experience, according to the letter the town sent him in April 2012 offering him the position.

Meyer earned an annual salary of $95,804.80.

Planning Zoning and Building Chairwoman B.J. Webb was surprised to hear the news of Meyer’s resignation Tuesday afternoon.

“We have a lot of work on the books right now, and I just hope we can keep that on track,” she said.
