Although the telecommunicators of Sarasota County's dispatch office are pretty good at communicating from afar, the Longboat Key Fire Department wanted to take an opportunity to thank them in person. In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which started April 11, Hunter the therapy dog trekked out to Sarasota.

He was accompanied by his mom, Longboat Key's Deputy Chief Sandi Drake, who brought bagels and a note from Chief Paul Dezzi to the sheriff's office to thank the telecommunicators for all they do. Longboat Key doesn't have its own call center, so calls are handled by the Sarasota sheriff's office. Dezzi thanked them for handling often panicked calls and bringing useful information to first responders. Hunter thanked them with some fluffy hugs.
