10:33 a.m., Seabreeze Avenue
Parking warning: Police received a 911 call about a pair of golf carts that were reported to be parked illegally. The officer, who first handled a higher-priority call, was sent to the scene and discovered one of them parked properly though the other was parked in the grass nearby. The officer asked that it be moved, and it was. A verbal warning was issued.
5:12 p.m., 500 block of Hornblower Lane
Citizen dispute: Police were sent to a residence to look into a civil disturbance but found no one at the scene. The officer ascertained that the caller alerted police to the presence of an envelope on his door from a contractor concerning an ongoing civil matter. The officer tried to contact the contractor to recommend further communication be done in a more official manner, either through the court system of via certified mail.
9:18 p.m., New Pass
Agency assistance: The town’s marine patrol unit was sent to assist another agency with a report of a disabled boat in New Pass. The vessel was grounded on a sandbar and was waiting for a commercial tow service to assist, so no police help was needed.
3:29 p.m., Greer Island
Noise complaint from water: An officer asked a boater who had been reportedly playing loud music just offshore to reduce the volume. The boater did so.
9 p.m., 5400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive
Citizen assist: While on patrol, an officer saw three bicyclists riding on the sidewalk after dark with no lights, a violation of state law. The officer explained the requirements to the cyclists and gave them each bicycle lights, donated by the Florida Arrive Alive Bicycle campaign.
2:33 p.m., 7300 block of LaLenaire Drive
Agency assistance: An officer went to a waterfront address to see if assistance could be rendered to a watercraft crash nearby. The officer determined no land-based assistance was possible, so marine units from Manatee County and the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission were alerted. No injuries were reported, and town Fire-Rescue units were canceled en route.
3:33 p.m., 500 block of Sanctuary Drive
Alarm: A medical alarm alerted police to the potential for trouble at a Longboat home, but officers soon learned the owner of the alarm was in a Midwestern state and had forgotten to update the address with the monitoring company.
5:50 p.m., 600 block of Dream Island Road
Citizen assist: Police told a visitor to a relative’s house he was not welcome and advised the resident to call police again if the visitor returns.
10:10 a.m., 2900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive
Suspicious vehicle: A resident who was not at home called police to alert them to the presence of a vehicle that did not belong in his driveway. The resident told the officer that the vehicle arrived, a man stepped out, walked around the property and left. An officer discovered a door-knob hanger from a public-utility company. The resident said he would verity the identity of the visitor with the company.
3:30 p.m., 600 block of Norton Drive
Citizen dispute: A business owner and an employee argued over the treatment of power landscaping equipment, resulting in the employee resigning on the spot. The owner offered to drive the employee back to the company headquarters when work was complete, but the employee kept interrupting the work and wanted to leave. Both men were checked for criminal wants or warrants and no physical contact was made between the two.
