Longboat Key closed the books on election season last month, but campaign contributions recently added up for the Longboat Library.

Candidates can return unused funds to donors or give them as charitable donations.

Mayor Jim Brown and commission candidate Irwin Pastor donated their unused campaign contributions to the all-volunteer, not-for-profit library. The library is choosing to keep the amount of the donations confidential. Last year, Vice Mayor Dave Brenner and challenger Ray Rajewski also donated their unused contributions to the library.

In other news, the library will switch to summer hours next week.

Check out the library from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, May 1 through Nov. 1.
