Lauren Walker is a junior third baseman on the Braden River High softball team. As of March 6, Walker was hitting .458 on the season, with four doubles and a triple in 24 at-bats.

When did you start playing softball?

When I was 7. I had just moved to the (Braden River High) area from south Sarasota and my neighbor (Taryn Darley) was out throwing the ball. I joined her and fell in love with it.

What is the appeal to you?

I just love the game. I love coming out to the field every day with the team. I love hitting. I want to keep playing in college.

What is your best skill?

Hitting for sure. I've always been a power hitter. It's the best feeling to hit home runs because it feels like I hit nothing at all.

What is your favorite memory?

When I was 11 I threw my bat bag in the garbage after a Sarasota Quicksilver travel game (laughs). I don't remember what happened in the game. All I remember is being mad, walking off the field and throwing it away. My parents (Angela Walker and Clay Walker) got it back for me.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced?

I hurt my shoulder in eighth grade. I was scared that I would not come back at full strength since I was out for three months, but I used that time to get stronger and I have more power than I did then.

What is your dream vacation?

I want to go to Australia. I ate at Outback Steakhouse last week and there were all of these pictures of Australia on the walls. It looks really pretty.

What is your favorite TV show?

I really love 'Siesta Key.' I watch every Monday.

What is a random fact about you?

I'm a shy person, but once you get to know me I'm crazy hyper. People never believe that I'm shy but it's true.

What is the best advice you have received?

My dad says, 'When the lights go out, what do you have left?' Think about who is still with you.

Finish this sentence: Lauren Walker is ...

... Amazing (laughs). I don't know why. I'm in a good mood today. My mom packed a good lunch, it was chicken.
