Manatee County commissioners on Tuesday may determine the future of Hidden River Trail as it relates to bicyclists.

At its Sept. 26 meeting, the board is supposed to direct transportation staff on whether to prohibit bicycle usage or not on the two-lane road, which was built in 2005 with 10-foot travel lanes.

The road also has a separate 10-foot wide multi-purpose path. A sign says cycling on the road itself is prohibited, but there is no county ordinance to enforce it and in April 2015 the Village Idiots Club bicycling group requested the signs be removed. Motorists have expressed frustration about bicyclists using the road because there is no way to pass them.

The commission meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Manatee County administrative building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
