Lakewood Ranch High senior distance runners Kristin Zarella captured Lakewood’s lone individual regional championship while helping lead the Lady Mustangs to a third-place finish at the Class 3A-Region 3 meet April 25, at Charlotte High.

Fellow distance runner Olivia Ortiz also will return to the state meet after qualifying in the 3200. Ortiz spent much of the past year rehabbing after breaking her femur at last year’s state meet. She finally returned to the track in March.

As a regional champion, Zarrella, along with the top four finishers in each event, will advance to the Class 3A Track and Field Finals May 3 in Jacksonville.

State Qualifiers Include:
LAKEWOOD RANCH
Olivia Ortiz (3200)
Kristin Zarrella (800)
Talia Falco (100 hurdles, high jump and long jump)
Girls 4x400 relay

BRADEN RIVER
Zac D’Urso (pole vault)
