A 58-year-old Sarasota man is in jail after an early morning incident in which he allegedly struck an ex-girlfriend, slashed a witness with a knife and threatened arresting officers.

Charles Powell was captured in the 1500 block of Second Street before 7 a.m. this morning.

Police say he got into an argument with ex-girlfriend and hit her as she tried to walk away. Three witnesses tried to stop him, but he grabbed a knife and began swinging it at the witnesses.

Powell slashed Angela Davis on the chest, cutting through her clothes and causing a minor cut on her skin, police say.

Offices finally caught up with Powell, but he didn’t go quietly. He allegedly threatened the witnesses and arresting officers, saying, “Don’t worry I’m going to get my revenge. I know how to get information — the Freedom of Information Act ... Boy, I’m gonna cut that fat pig up, and it’s gonna be so sweet. ... Everybody’s name in there I’m gonna dispose of. They gotta make it to court first.”

Police say Powell also began rapping, “It’s OK. I’ve got my AK-47.”
