The Longboat Key Club and Resort held its annual two-day men’s and women’s golf-club-member championship April 2 and April 3 to close out the season.

In the men’s division, Dave Gallagher finished first, with a two-day total of 162. Gallagher beat last year’s winner, Norm Langlois, past champion Ted Boyer, and Hank Foster by one stroke. Langlois also took net honors.

In the women’s division, Arlene McKitrick won her 32nd club championship, with a total score of 159. McKitrick held a four-shot advantage heading into the second day of competition and had a final round score of 76 on the Blue Heron and Red Hawk courses. Barbara Kubik, runner-up, was also named the 2009 net champion.

The Gold Flight was a new addition to this year’s tournament. Joe Curl took gross division honors with a total of 168, while net honors went to Fred Smith, with a two-day total of 134.

“The entire championship was a finely contested battle that ultimately came down to a critical shot or putt for both our champions,” said Joey Rassett, director of golf for the Key Club, in a press release.

After the two-day event, participants and their spouses attended an awards presentation and cocktail reception at the Harbourside Grill deck.
