Jay Heater's blog -- Sign of the times

Am I the only one who can't read those things?

They sure are pretty.

I am talking about those road signs all around Lakewood Ranch that tell you which way to go.

Hopefully, you won't want to run me out of town for saying this, but am I the only one who can't read those things?

Yes, those multicolored signs that have slats stacked one on top of another, usually four or five arranged in kind of a sign totem pole.

Maybe it is just my eyes, which I admit aren't what they once were. Perhaps I could write I write a song.

In this real world, though, of a guy living his first month in the area, it has been a pain.

I started to think that perhaps it's a pain for those coming to Lakewood Ranch for the first time.

The ones as you drive down Lakewood Ranch Boulevard are tough enough, although you should be driving a bit slower, but once you get out on University, it is darned near impossible to figure it all out in your 3 second window of time. If you have experienced eyes like I do, it is simply impossible to scan through them and pick the direction you want.

In fact, it might be a hazard, kind of like texting. You are looking to your right across three lanes of traffic, trying to pick out the place you want to be -- Main Street, for instance -- and then trying to see which way the arrow is pointing. Meanwhile, cars are whizzing past at 60 miles per hour.

I've made the wrong turn about four times in the last week.

Then again, maybe it's just me.
