+ It’s called Manatee County for a reason
Lands End resident Tom Mayers spotted a group of nine manatees swimming in the bay at the north end of Longboat Key. Mayers said the sighting was a reminder of why the county is named for the giant marine mammal — and for boaters to slow down and look out for marine life.
