The Barrier Island Elected Officials Organization officially sent a letter to Manatee County Administrator Ed Hunzeker July 29 asking for how the county is planning for an influx of future residential developments coming online in the next 20 years like Lake Flores in west Bradenton.

“With the recent rebound of housing development in the area, it would be reassuring if we had some insight and understanding as to the plans both Manatee County and the city of Bradenton have in place to channel this growth,” the letter states. “At the same time, we would like to have the opportunity to offer our suggestions and recommendations as to how these plans may serve to lighten the impact on our island environments.”

The letter was sent after a recent meeting of the BIEO expressed concern with how new developments in west Bradenton will impact what’s perceived as a traffic issue that already exists on the barrier islands in season.

Anna Maria Mayor Dan Murphy, Bradenton Beach Mayor Jack Clarke, Holmes Beach Mayor Robert Johnson and Longboat Key Vice Mayor Terry Gans signed the letter, which invites Hunzeker to attend a future BIEO meeting to review the plans and issues the elected officials worry will affect the area.
