The Longboat Key Historical Society has requested for two monuments to be moved from the property formerly occupied by the Historical Society and the Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce to Bicentennial Park.

One monument is the Tablet of Honor, which was dedicated in 1980 “to honor those persons who have made significant contributions to the development of Longboat as ‘the key to happiness’ for all to enjoy.’” The other monument is a bronze plaque that commemorates the Spanish landing on the island in the 1500s.

In an e-mail to commissioners, Historical Society President Tom Mayers wrote that the group would like to add names to the Tablet of Honor and help preserve both monuments.
