Residents in University Park’s Henley neighborhood are making strides to make their community Florida-Friendly certified.

Manatee County’s Director of Florida Friendly Landscape Services Michelle Atkinson recently inspected several homes in the neighborhood, bringing the total number of certified homes to 18 of 32.

Residents hope to have the remaining homes certified within six months.

“Because our neighborhood is along the Braden River, with considerable preserve, pine and oak hammock, we feel a responsibility to follow the nine principles outlined in the (Florida Friendly landscaping)program,” says Polly Curran who is leading the team’s project along with Emily Vosnos, neighborhood chairwoman, and resident Maureen Hager.

Henley’s common-area landscaping was certified as Florida-friendly two years ago.
