The Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota Inc. has announced the annual speaker for the its annual meeting, which will take place 8:30 a.m. Sept. 26, at Sarasota Laurel Oaks Club. 

Kiwanis International Past President Dr. Will Blechman will be the keynote speaker.

Blechman became interested in children’s issues after working with Kiwanis. He was instrumental in developing the organizations ongoing program, Young Children.

Blechman will present research on brain development and factors that can inhibit or support brain development even before the child is born. He will also talk about the outcome of children who grow into adulthood without good health, emotional, social and educational skills in the United States.

The meeting will also feature a review of the 2013 achievements in maternal and child health, recognitions of outstanding, volunteers, families and businesses and nonprofit partners.

The non-profit organization provides professional services for pregnant women, infants and new families in Sarasota County to prevent low birth weight, prematurity and other health development outcomes.
