Governor Charlie Crist has tapped attorney Christine Robinson to replace Commissioner Shannon Staub on the Sarasota County Commission.

Staub announced in September that she was retiring next month, two years before her term was to expire.
In such cases, it is up to the governor to appoint a new commissioner to fill out a retirees’ term.

Robinson, 36, has served on the Sarasota County Planning Commission since 2008 and was on the Manatee Community College board of trustees for three years, beginning in 2007.

“Christine’s experience as a college trustee and as a small-business owner has given her unique insight into decisions she will face as she serves as a county commissioner,” Crist said. “I am confident she will work to make Sarasota County a better place for the residents and visitors of today and tomorrow.”

Staub’s last day on the commission is Dec. 15. Robinson begins her new job the following day.
