FRIDAY FIVE: Shows that showcased Sarasota

Last weeks Friday Five focused on the famous folks who were born in Sarasota County. This week, we turn the spotlight to the region itself with a look at five shows (four of which that are reality shows) that have featured Sarasota on the small screen.

+ Man vs. Food

"Man v. Food" Host Adam Richmand helped showcase the beautiful views of New Pass and quirky culture of Sarasota when he chowed down at the Old Salty Dog next to Longboat Key and Munchies 420 Cafe in Gulf Gate in 2009. Before losing to food in Munchies' "Mystery Challange," Richman sampled traditional Amish food at Yoder's Restaurant.

+ Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri dropped by Alpine Steakhouse in 2010, to try the turducken for the Food Network show. Fieri called the dish a "flavor fest."

+ Cougar Town

In the title sequence of "Cougar Town," the camera zooms to an area that looks to be right in the middle of Sarasota County. The shows co-creator, Kevin Biegel, graduated from Riverview High School in 1994.

+ Amish Mafia

The show may be the bane of the local Amish community, but the Discovery Channel's "Amish Mafia" did bring some national attention to the local historic community. 

+ Total Divas

Natalie Neidhart, better known as WWE diva Natalya, married fellow WWE superstar Tyson Kidd (T.J. Wilson) June 26, at a private home on Siesta Key, with a reception following at Michael’s On East. The first episode of "Total Divas," featuring the wedding-planning process will air Sunday, Aug. 18, on E!.
