1. CREATIVE MIND: David Hagberg started his writing career as a journalist but found the writing to be too restrictive because he was "stuck writing the truth." "I live by my imagination," he says.

2. BUSY MAN: Hagberg has authored about 80 books and a few short stories since his first book, "Twister," came out in 1975.

3. HIGH FLYER: Out of high school, Hagberg joined the U.S.Air Force, where he was trained as a cryptographer.

4. MONEY TALKS: Hagberg has auctioned off a novel character for charity before.
