The improvement project at Selby Five Points Park has received a large boost.
The Selby Foundation has awarded the project a $31,000 grant.
According to John Moran, a downtown activist who wrote the grant application, the foundation provided the money for tree lighting.
“They want to see lights in the trees ASAP,” he said.
The Downtown Improvement District is paying for more than $100,000 worth of renovations to the park, including re-grading the ground to sidewalk level, building a performance stage and creating a brick walkway through the park.
The lighting will provide both a level of beauty and security.
The improvements are expected to be complete before a Christmas tree lighting ceremony Dec. 3.
