Local designer Camilyn Leavitt has taken the fashion world by storm with her classic, feminine designs since launching Camilyn Beth in 2012. Black Tie keeps up with the designer on Instagram, following her new designs and latest endeavors. With the Camilyn Beth studio opening in downtown Sarasota, we stopped by to check out the new place, get a sneak peek at the new designs and talk to the designer about what’s new and what’s trending.

Have your new designs change at all from your original pieces?

My design aesthetic has always been classic design with unexpected details. I am constantly inspired by timeless style from the 1960s but I like to update the look to appeal to the modern women. When I started three years ago, I was experimenting with different garments as I was figuring out my target customer. I now know my customer and what she is looking for — a stunning dress that will turn heads at any special occasion and will last the decades.

What’s new in your collection for spring and summer? What was your inspiration?

The Camilyn Beth Spring/Summer 2015 Collection is filled with flirty pastels with a Parisian sophistication. Cinderella blue has been a huge hit as well.

What’s new for fall?

With the Camilyn Beth Fall/Winter 2015 Collection, I focused on retro party dresses that women can wear to any holiday party. I used deep shades of midnight navy, marsala and hunter green. This FW15 is all about the silhouette. I played around with tulle details to accentuate the figure.

What has happened in the last three years since you started Camilyn Beth?

  • April 2012 Sold to my first boutique that officially launched my business
  • Aug. 2013 The Go Go Dress was featured on Atlantic Pacific blog
  • Oct. 2013 Presented the SS14 Collection at New Orleans Fashion Week
  • Nov. 2013 Featured in Southern Living Magazine
  • Oct. 2014 Started showing collections at Atlanta Market
  • Dec. 2014 Moved into studio space downtown Sarasota
  • March 2015 Joined Honeyman PR Agency

Why did you decide to host a 3rd anniversary/grand opening party?

We moved into the studio in December. I wanted to host a party so I could host my friends, family, CB team and customers who have given me so much love and support through out the last 3 years. I really couldn't do it without them.

Your presence on social media is booming. How is social media influencing the fashion world?

Social media and networking online has always been our secret weapon. It's the best way to get people hyped up about new designs and launch dates. It's a great way to show people how to style their CB and to inspire outfits. I love working with other bloggers and media publications through social media. Social media has been the key to building our brand.

What are your favorite trends?

I love the all-white summer look. It's so fresh and chic. Lately, I have been wearing kitten heels, mini-bags, red Chanel lipstick and big cat-eye sunglasses with just about everything especially my CB summer dresses.

Tips for dressing for Sarasota summers?

Dresses are always great for Sarasota summers, they are light and airy while still looking fab and put together.

What new and exciting things are coming in the future for Camilyn Beth?

With our PR company, we have been sending out a lot of dresses to some big publications and celebrities. Hopefully they will start getting published and we will be able to really grow our brand. I am also excited for a killer SS16 collection that I am designing now.
