East Manatee Fire preps for growth

East Manatee firefighters are preparing to put a new ladder truck in service.

Fire instructors from Broward County spent the week training East Manatee Fire Rescue firefighters at Manatee Technical Institute. Firefighters learned high-angle ropes rescue work, which includes using ropes and baskets to rescue indviduals from high-rise buildings through windows, for example.

"This is East Manatee's first formal technical rescue," East Manatee's Lt. Luke Fay said as he tied a tap knot. "We have a big brand new bucket truck that has been purchased for th high-rise apartments."
