Donna Hayes cited for careless driving

The Florida Highway Patrol today cited Manatee County Commissioner Donna Hayes for careless driving and failingto immediately report a vehicle crash that occurred at State Road 70 and Third Street West in Bradenton.

A Florida Highway Patrol report states Hayes, 69, was driving her 2009 Cadillac westbound on the inside lane of S.R. 70, approaching the intersection of 3rd Street West when the traffic in front of her stopped. Hayes' vehicle struck the rear of a Honda Odyssy driven by Ruth Demha, of Bradenton.

The report states Hayes gave Demha her business card, which included her contact information, and Demha also obtained Hayes' tag number.

Hayes then indicated she was late for a meeting and was feeling ill.

Hayes traveled to her residence and contacted Emergency Medical Services, who transported her to Blake Medical Center, the report states. Hayes did not sustain any injuries from the crash.
