Dolphin calf's recovery continues at Mote

A dolphin calf nicknamed “Taz” continues to recover at Mote’s Dolphin and Whale Hospital as of Friday, Feb. 11.

According to a prepared statement, Mote staff and volunteers have stayed with Taz in four-hour shifts since his arrival and have logged more than 670 hours caring for the 6-month-old dolphin. Taz is currently fed eight times a day. His health remains stable, although Mote staff members warn that his condition could change at any time and must continue to be monitored.

Taz arrived at Mote Jan. 13 after being rescued on a sandbar in the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island.
