Dog-gone hydrants on fire

At times, running an animal rescue can be a true art form.

That was the case on Aug. 20 when more than 30 Ringling College of Art and Design students donated their time and talent during a Nate's Animal Rescue fundraiser, Hydrants for Hounds.

Among the artwork created by the students was transforming five hydrants to look like dogs. Besides creating other artwork as well, the students helped clean animal pens. Guests posed for photos with the hydrants, a fire truck supplied by East Manatee Fire Rescue and the firefighters.

Those visiting the event dined on Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, which donated a portion of the sales back to Nate's.
