The Diocese of Venice has purchased 63 acres in Lakewood Ranch in preparation for the future.

The diocese purchased 63 acres at the northeast corner of Lorraine Road and The Master's Avenue for $3.5 million. The agricultural property is described in public records as part of the County Club East golf course, although it it not an existing golf course site.

"The acquisition of this property will greatly help to plan for the future pastoral needs of our growing Catholic community in the area of Lakewood Ranch," said Ben Nguyen, director of communications for the diocese.

The site was selected in consultation with neighboring Catholic pastors, the Presbyteral Council and the Diocesan Finance Council, Nguyen said.
