Deputies arrest fugitive sex offender in Lakewood Ranch

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office deputies on Aug. 17 arrested a fugitive sex offender in Lakewood Ranch.

According to sheriff's office reports, Miguel Orduno has been wanted since July 2010 for failure to register as a sex offender. The Fugitive Apprehension Unit located Orduno near Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and University Parkway.

Orduno also was charged with failure to appear in court, possession of marijuana and providing a false name to a law enforcement officer.

Orduno, an illegal alien who was deported from the United States twice after serving federal prison time, has eluded arrest by providing false identification and using different home addresses on 49th Street in Sarasota.

He was booked into the Sarasota County Jail on the local charges, and a detainer was placed on him by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
