Cyclists in the Village Idiots Cycling Club set their wheels spinning May 15 along the streets of Lakewood Ranch, as they remembered cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding.

The “Ride of Silence,” in which the group participated, is a national event.

“After our normal Wednesday night rides, we regrouped and rode the final five miles at 12 mph in total silence, taking a lane of traffic to honor those who have been injured or killed in auto/bicycle-related accidents and to raise awareness that cyclists have a right to the roads,” rider Sean Dotson says. “Many of the riders in our group have had accidents or near misses with motor vehicles.”
