New Longboat Key crosswalks aren’t completely operational yet.

Black tape is currently covering signs that alert pedestrians and motorists about the crosswalks while crews work to solve an electrical issue that exists with the push buttons that activate overhead flashing lights.

Town Manager Dave Bullock said the issue is being resolved this week as the Florida Department of Transportation works to begin final testing for the crosswalks with its contractor.

The crosswalks are located just north of Companion Way; at Banyan Beach Club in the 5600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive; at The Diplomat Condominium Beach Resort in the 3100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive; and at the Country Club Shores beach access at Longboat Club Drive in the 1000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive.

FDOT plans to hold informational crosswalk education open houses on the Key in the first quarter of 2016 to get pedestrians and motorists accustomed to the crosswalks.
