Crosby begins Mote leadership role

Dr. Michael Crosby assumed leadership of Mote Marine Laboratory during Mote’s annual board of trustees meeting, taking over the role of CEO following the retirement of Dr. Kumar Mahadevan.

Mahadevan’s new position is president emeritus after 27 years of service as CEO.

As Mote’s president and CEO, Crosby will oversee the laboratory’s research programs, along with the organization’s educational and policy efforts.

Crosby joined Mote in 2010, when he was appointed to lead the lab’s scientific endeavors. Previously, he served as as associate vice president for research and economic development at George Mason University and vice chancellor for research at the University of Hawai’i-Hilo.

In his three years at Mote, Dr. Crosby has helped develop the Lab’s current guiding document — the 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan, developed the Mote Marine Laboratory Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, which provides support and mentorship for recent Ph.D. graduates, and has worked on several international initiatives expanding Mote’s marine science leadership worldwide.
