Craig Colorusso installs exhibits around Sarasota

A soft melody of notes from a b-flat 6 guitar chord drones from the Sun Boxes. A blanket of clouds looms over the Palm Ave. garage’s head where they sit. As clouds hover above, the boxes go silent. But Fuzíon Dance Artists improvise, instead of to the sound the 20 boxes create from solar energy, to the wind.

"Sometimes in life you don’t get what you want," Craig Colorusso, artist responsible for the temporary exhibit, says with a laugh. "This project has made me become very patient."

Arkansas-based Colorusso installs temporary exhibits around the nation — he’s trying to visit every state. His Sun Boxes project will be on display at various locations around Sarasota through Thursday, and he’ll return Jan. 1 through Jan. 3 for a second tour of Sarasota.

There’s no ideal setting, he says, because it’s specific to the sun and shadows at each site. However, sunlight is necessary for making the boxes sound.

Colorusso's separate art and sound installation, CUBEMUSC, will be on display inside of Art Center Sarasota from Nov. 7 through Jan. 3, at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail.

CUBEMUSIC and three other exhibitions open Thursday, Nov. 7. A reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Read about another one of the exhibits, "Pulp Culture," opening the same night, here.

4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 on the north end of Lido Beach near 115 John Ringling Blvd.

9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at St. Armands Circle Park

12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Bayfront Park (near O’Leary’s Tiki Bar and Grill, 5 Bayfront Dr.

4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 6 at Siesta Key Beach (south of the public pavilion)

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail
