Oct. 3
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
10 a.m. — 8300 block of Midnight Pass Road.
Illegal Dumping. A man reported that someone dumped an old mattress in his front yard while he was sleeping. Deputies do not have any suspects.

Oct. 5
BRAKING BAD
6:46 p.m. — 8800 block of Midnight Pass Road
. Vehicle Crash. A man crashed his vehicle into a woman’s car while she was turning onto a roadway. The man told a deputy he believed his brakes “went out,” because he was pressing on the brake pedal. The woman said she had a headache, but she refused emergency services. According to the report, the man’s brakes “worked fine” as he drove away.

Oct. 6
KEY INVENTORY
11 a.m. — 300 block of Canal Road.
Lost/Found Property. A man found a set of car keys.

Oct. 7
CASHING OUT
9:30 a.m. — 6100 block of Midnight Pass Road.
Petit Theft. Deputies suspect an employee of a resort entered one of the units and took $75 cash from a tenant. The man staying in the room said he put the cash in his wife’s wallet and placed it in the dresser before going to the beach. When he returned, the man found only a few $1 bills.

FLAT-OUT STOLEN
9 p.m. — 4100 block of Higel Avenue. Petit Theft. A man reported that someone stole two bicycles from his residence. The men’s model was worth $500, and the women’s model was worth $270. Both bicycles had flat tires.

Oct. 8
HAIRY SITUATION
1 a.m. — 900 block of Beach Road.
Battery. A man flagged down a deputy to report that a group of bald men jumped him. He told police one of the men punched him in the jaw, and another man threatened to “cut him” with a knife.

PICTURE THIS
8:33 a.m. — 4700 block of Higel Avenue. Burglary of a Vehicle. Officers dusted two cars for fingerprints, after a woman reported that the vehicles were burglarized. She told deputies someone took her camera and rummaged through her friend’s car while she was house sitting for him.

SISTER, SISTER
2:25 p.m. — 600 block of Tropical Circle. Grand Theft. A woman reported to police that she suspects her sister’s boyfriend entered her mother’s house and coerced her mother into sending her wedding ring to the sister. The woman told police her mother doesn’t have the cognitive skills to do such a thing.

STARTLING DISCOVERY
6:15 p.m. — 5200 block of Calle De Rio. Suspicious Incident. A woman told deputies her neighbor pulled his red BMW into the grass while she was loading things in her car and startled her. After inquiring about how she was feeling, the man began taking pictures and videos of her with his cell phone.

Oct. 11
DOUBTFUL DAMAGES
2:59 a.m. — 5900 block of Midnight Pass Road.
Property Damage. Deputies suspect that vehicle damage a woman said was caused by a Sarasota County vehicle may have come from her striking a non-moving object.
