LEGALLY GONE
1:54 a.m. — 500 block of De Narvaez Drive
Vehicle Repossession: A woman called police to report her white Nissan was stolen. After investigating, police informed her that the car wasn’t stolen. It was repossessed and taken off the island legally by a tow truck.
FAILED GETAWAY
3:49 a.m. — 2400 block of GMD
Traffic Violation: A woman was cited for failing to drive within a single lane at 2:30 a.m. She blamed the weaving on texting. Police discovered her driver’s license was suspended and confiscated it. She parked her car and waited for a ride. But at 3:49 a.m., police saw her driving her car again and arrested her after she sped into a condominium parking lot to avoid being pulled over. Police found a trace amount of marijuana in her car before it was towed away.
COSTLY VISIT
4:10 p.m. — 3300 block of GMD
Public Service: A man told police he thinks his truck was towed from a Key condominium parking lot while he was visiting a friend. A condo management employee confirmed the truck was towed to Bradenton. Police told him it was a civil matter.
POWER PROBLEM
7:37 p.m. — 1000 block of Bogey Lane
Fire: Firefighter/paramedics informed police that a power line running through the top of a tree was arching and caused the top of the tree to burn. Crews stayed on scene until the power company arrived to repair the line.
BAGGED IT
6:29 p.m. — 2900 block of GMD
Found Property: A man turned over an orange backpack containing a GoPro camera he found while walking along Gulf of Mexico Drive. The owner of the backpack called an hour later looking for the bag, and police turned it over to him after he described the bag and its contents.
BUMPER CAR
10:14 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
Disturbance: A man reported that someone deliberately hit him with his vehicle when he blocked off a parking space with a traffic cone. When he placed the cone in front of the space, a man driving a white Lexus wagged his finger at him and then hit him with his car as he drove into the parking space, knocking the man to the ground. A restaurant witness also observed the incident and told police the driver was laughing about it as he got out of the car with a passenger and entered the restaurant. The suspect was gone when police arrived, and the employee declined to press charges.

9:11 a.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
Narcotics Violation: A hotel employee told police a guest was walking on the beach and found “a brick of marijuana weighing several pounds” on the beach near some blue cabanas. The package was waterlogged and appeared to have been in the water for some time. It was placed into evidence at the police station.
SURFER RESURFACING
11:42 a.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
Boat: A woman reported she saw a kite surfer go under water who didn’t come back up. Marine patrol conducted a search of the area and didn’t find anyone.
HAND IT OVER
10:21 p.m. — Intersection of Bay Isles Parkway and GMD
Traffic: A license plate recognition camera alerted police that a man with a suspended driver’s license drove onto the island. The man handed over his license and told police he wasn’t aware it was suspended for failing to pay traffic fines. He was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license and failing to dim his high beams.

5:32 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
Altercation: A man told police he got upset at his brother’s friend for yelling vulgar words toward everyone in a hotel room, including his elderly grandmother. Police, though, observed a cellphone video taken by a witness in the room that revealed he was the one being confrontational and using vulgar words. No one wanted to press charges, and police told the parties to stay in separate hotel rooms.
WET BANDIT
9:37 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD
Assist Other Agency: A Public Works employee reported a water theft. He told police a water meter he shut off was turned back on in the last month and 5,000 gallons of water was used. The water valve was turned back off and a lock was placed on it to prevent the theft of more water.
