March 5
What are you smoking?

3:19 p.m. — 100 block of N. Shore Road. Suspicious Circumstance. A man saw several young people on the beach smoking from a large glass pipe with several long tubes. Police said there was a good chance they were smoking from a hookah.

March 7
Crossing paths

9:53 a.m. — 4200 block of GMD. Bicycle Accident. A cyclist struck a man as he crossed through the bicycle lane while walking home. The cyclist lost control, fell and sustained a head wound and several abrasions. Before firefighter/paramedics transported him to the hospital, the cyclist told police he would be fine and would pick up his bicycle later at the station.

In hot water
10:56 p.m. — 3000 block of Grand Bay Blvd. Battery. A man dumped a bucket of water on his neighbor from his balcony, then sprayed him with a hose. The neighbor was walking his dogs, and the man was angry because they were barking. The man said he dumped the bucket while trying to water plants, then said he sprayed the man with the hose because his dogs were barking. He said he had been drinking and didn’t remember what happened. Police took him to a holding cell and later transported him home with a notice to appear for battery.

March 8
Lost loggerhead

12:10 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD. Public Service. Police found a dead sea turtle floating on its back. Mote staffers removed the carcass.

March 9
Theft or throw away?

11:59 a.m. — 4200 block of GMD. Larceny. A man and woman parked their bicycles next to a Dumpster behind a church, then walked out to the pier to pray. Their bicycles were missing when they returned. The church had held a bazaar the day prior, and police believe the bicycles could have been thrown away. A witness said he saw a gray vehicle in the area earlier.

Boater brawl
4:31 p.m. — Jewfish Key. Disturbance. An argument broke out among boaters who police had asked to keep their music down earlier. A boat operator said someone tried to board his boat without his permission. An unknown female was struck with a bottle but left the area. Everyone involved had been drinking. Police made sure all boat operators were safe and told them to leave the area.
