Forbidden books

3:19 p.m. — 700 block of Longboat Club Road. Domestic Disturbance. A couple argued about a stack of old books the wife amassed over the years. Her husband threw some of literature out the window, and management called police after a verbal argument ensued. The woman told the officer she just wanted to be left alone, so police advised the man to do so and clean up the yard.

Whose bike?
5:19 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Cedar Street. Property Found. Public Works staffers found a rusty blue and silver Bellport 26-inch bicycle stashed behind newspaper boxes. It had been there for several days, and after police confirmed it had not been stolen, they tagged it and put it in storage.

Colony saboteurs
8:04 a.m. – 1600 block of GMD. Vandalism. The property manager at the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort reported multiple units had been vandalized in six buildings. The units were locked, however, doors were kicked in, cabinets were torn down and virtually anything made of glass in the effected areas had been smashed. Because of rain, no fingerprints were discovered. The manager arranged for the doors and windows to be boarded up to prevent further damage.

Unexpected shower

11:47 a.m. – 500 block of Companion Way. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman at a beach access point got an unexpected shower from a nearby sprinkler and called police to investigate. Property owners could not be reached, so the officer blocked the sprinkler with plywood to deter further problems.

Dumpster disgust

9:08 a.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Public Service. When a foul stench drifted from a motel, police identified a neighboring Dumpster as the culprit. When an adjoining property owner issued the initial complaint, the officer smelled and spotted the noxious trash receptacle upon his arrival. Police spoke with the management company, which agreed to treat the Dumpster with bleach immediately.

Ignorance is bliss
11:49 a.m. — 600 block of Linley Street. Noise. The “faint” sound of a chainsaw and weed eater prompted a resident to call the police. The officer informed the unaware neighbor at work in his backyard of Longboat Key’s Sunday noise ordinances.
