May 4
Fishy situation
7:31 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A man reported that two men directed foul language toward him, before walking away after he asked them to leave the golf-course waterway where they were fishing.

May 5
On standby
12:17 a.m. — 500 block of Gen. Harris St.
Assist Other Agency. Another agency asked police to look for a Lincoln Navigator with possible damage to its driver’s side. Police found the vehicle and stood by while the other agency completed a crash investigation.

Lingering odor
9:48 a.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive. Narcotics Violation. While walking on the beach, a woman found a pipe emitting the smell of burnt cannabis.

In hot water
11:54 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Suspicious Circumstance. Police took a sample of a brown substance found floating in the Gulf that officials later said was a harmless algae that often surfaces as water warms.

Dry territory
11:50 p.m. — Linley Street. Code Enforcement. A woman said that she was fishing with her family when two or three men came onto the town dock using foul language and drinking alcohol. Police later found one of the men sitting on a park bench with an open bottle of vodka. He said that he and the other two men live aboard a sailboat and were on the dock loading groceries. Police poured out the alcohol and issued him a written warning for having an open container.

May 6
Rescue mission
1:31 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road.
Rescue. Police responded to a report of two people being swept out to sea but learned that another boater had rescued them.

Neighborhood watch
2:34 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Property Found. A woman turned in a watch with a black metal analogue and a green nylon band that she found near her home.

Dogged pursuit
4:08 p.m. — 6300 block of GMD. Dog on the Beach. After police spotted him and his dog in the water, a man told police that he was visiting from out of town and didn’t know town codes. Police told him about Joan M. Durante Park, where dogs are allowed.

Bridge games
5 p.m. — Off the Key. Code Enforcement. Police saw two people jumping off of a bridge onto the beach but were unable to identify the jumpers in the crowd. Police warned several people on the beach that jumping is not permitted.

Boat rental
8:34 p.m. — 6000 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Police found two men on a boat at a marina. One man said that he was a marina employee and had rented a boat that he was returning, which a marina representative confirmed.

May 7
Clean sweep
3:33 a.m. — 700 block of Broadway.
Suspicious Circumstance. A person sleeping in a vehicle parked in a restaurant lot was found to be a night cleaning person.

Town code translations
5:46 p.m. — 500 block of Putter Lane. Disturbance. Police used a translation program to tell workers in Spanish that construction noises are banned on the Key between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday.

May 8
Missing mailbox key
7:57 p.m. — 3000 block of Grand Bay Blvd.
Lost/Missing Property. A woman lost her mailbox key somewhere between her doctor’s office and her home.

Letter-writing campaign
8:58 p.m. — 800 block of Broadway. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman found a typed note attached to her car telling her to remove her Obama 2012 bumper sticker from her vehicle. Police didn’t find anything threatening in the note but agreed to increase patrols in the area.

May 10
After-hours party
11:52 p.m. — 100 block of GMD.
Code Enforcement. Police found a group of people on a sandbar after spotting two vehicles, clothing, shoes and beer bottles on the nearby shore. Police issued written warnings for trespassing after hours to both vehicle operators, both of whom were designated drivers.
