The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Dec. 27
Their door is always open
9:52 a.m. — 12200 block of Aster Avenue. 
Vehicle Burglary. A resident reported that someone entered his unlocked car, which was parked in the driveway, and took a key. The suspect attempted to unlock the resident’s home with the key, but it didn’t fit, so the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door. Once inside, the suspect took a cell phone and a purse from the kitchen counter. The suspect took the purse across the street and emptied its contents next to a vehicle under a streetlight, taking $10 cash, a driver’s license and a Social Security card. Several other unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the area.

Dec. 31
Motorless boat
9:23 a.m. — 1100 block of Woodview Way.
Burglary/Larceny. A man reported someone removed his boat and trailer from their parking spot outside the master bedroom of his home. The suspect cut a lock to remove the boat’s 30 HP motor, which is valued at a $1,000. The man believes that he knows who may have made the theft.

Jan. 6
Stymied rock
8:54 a.m. — 6900 block of Langley Place. 
Unarmed Burglary. A resident reported that someone used a rock to smash the rear glass door of his home and then fled the scene. The rock-thrower did not take any items from the home due to an alarm.

Jan. 6
Steal and shop
10:28 a.m. — 5200 block of 18th Avenue E.
Unarmed Burglary. Someone stole a wallet, which contained a driver’s license, debit and credit cards and cash, from an unlocked rental car. The suspect used the victim’s credit card to make two purchases valued at more than $800 at a department store.

Jan. 7
Distrustful deposit
2:46 p.m. — 10100 block of Day Lily Court
. Obtain Property Under $20,000. A renter gave money to a landlord as a deposit on a rental property. Through a sequence of events and misrepresentation, the landlord used the renter’s money for personal gain.

Jan. 9
False alarm
6:32 p.m. — Linger Lodge Road/Ranch Lake Boulevard.
Suspicious Incidents. A deputy responded to a suspicious bag sitting on the side of the road; a beeping noise was coming from it. The deputy carefully approached the beeping bag and did not see any suspicious items inside of it. Bomb tech was notified. A detective determined the beeping object was not a bomb but, rather, an old smoke detector.
