The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

Jan. 9
Successful rummage
9:45 a.m. — 1340 block of Millbrook Circle.
Vehicle burglary. An unknown person(s) entered a vehicle via an unlocked door. The person(s) rummaged through the dash and center console before stealing a GPS system and miscellaneous coins. The value of the stolen items is $125.

Jan. 10
Smash and grab
7:47 a.m. — 9100 block of Town Center Parkway. 
Vehicle burglary. Unknown person(s) smashed the driver-side front window of a car parked at a school. The person(s) reached into the vehicle and removed a woman’s purse, valued at $2,217, from the front passenger seat. The person(s) fled the area in a black, mid-sized SUV heading west on Town Center Parkway.

Jan. 14
Bathroom art
4:04 p.m. — 6400 block of State Road 64 E.
Criminal Mischief. A woman found graffiti inscribed on two of the walls separating urinals in the men’s restroom of a convenience store. The walls will cost around $100 to repaint. Photos were taken of the graffitti and emailed to the Gang Unit.

Jan. 15
Tuned out
2:02 a.m. — 2900 block of 54th Drive E.
Information only. A deputy responded to loud music coming from a downstairs apartment. The deputy met with the apartment’s residents and told them to turn their music down. The deputy left, only to receive another complaint of loud music coming from the same apartment. The deputy came back to the apartment and gave another warning. Again, the apartment’s residents agreed to quiet down and go to sleep.

Mistaken identity
5:07 p.m. — 4800 block of 79th Avenue Place E. Fraud/Use of ID without consent. A woman reported that an unknown person(s) fraudulently used her Social Security number to file their 2011 federal tax return.

Pint-sized pilferer
11:57 a.m. — 8800 block of Brookfield Terrace. Suspicious incidents. A woman showed a deputy the exterior of her garage door and pointed to several small handprints. The deputy inspected the door and did not notice any damage or signs of attempted. It appears a small child placed the palms of his hands against the door to make the prints. The woman revealed her husband owns a portable ultrasound business and keeps his equipment in the garage, and she is suspicious someone tried to steal his equipment.

Don’t stop
6:23 p.m. — Betts Road and Singletary Road. Information only. A deputy was dispatched to a downed stop sign. Upon the deputy’s arrival it appeared the sign had fallen over. A Florida Department of Transportation worker fixed the sign in the deputy’s presence.

Jan. 16
Disappearing wallet
9:14 a.m. — 7200 block of 55th Avenue E.
Lost item not stolen. A woman placed her wallet on top of a gas pump at a gas station and drive away.

Heavy metal
5:48 p.m. — 3200 block 45h Street E. Petit grand theft. A man reported that unknown person(s) removed metal objects from his yard. The man believes the items were stolen because they are metal. He has had metal items stolen before and he thinks the same person did it again. The man said the items are very heavy and would take two people to pick up.
