June 25
Heat check
9:17 p.m. — 5000 block of Lena Road.
Possession of Weapon by Felon. A gun store reported a person came into the store to drop off a .12-gauge shotgun for repair. He also was carrying another gun. The man planned to buy an additional 12 guns from the store for his business. A background check, which the store conducted, showed the man is a convicted felon and is not supposed to be in possession of a firearm. The sheriff’s office confirmed his criminal background. A deputy went to the store to obtain an affidavit from an employee. A detective took over the investigation.

June 26
SMASH-N-DASH
4:01 a.m. — 8300 block of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. 
Burglary. Unknown person(s) broke the glass of the passenger front door window of a car parked at a hospital. The person(s) stole a black DVD case with 50 DVDs in it valued at $40. The case was located under the center console in the front seat. A purse in the front passenger seat was not taken, nor were headphones for the DVD player. The vehicle’s owner checked on her vehicle after she learned another hospital employee’s vehicle had been burglarized that morning. Nothing was taken in that incident.

Acid Trip 
8:51 a.m. — 8000 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Found Property. A woman reported she found a gallon bottle of hydrochloric acid at the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway. The woman was walking to work when she stopped at a red light and saw the bottle in the crosswalk of the intersection. The woman called the police, because she was concerned someone might get hurt. A deputy collected the bottle and confiscated it to be destroyed.

Shopping spree
7:13 p.m. — 2900 block of 53rd Avenue E. Theft. Department store loss-prevention staff witnessed a person selecting items from a display shelf and placing them into his cart. The suspect then proceeded past all points of sale without paying for the items. Loss-prevention staff stopped the man and escorted him back inside. Items stolen valued $151.34. The man was arrest

ROTTEN RETALIATION
10:18 a.m. — 12600 block of Cara Cara Loop. Criminal Mischief. A man let his son drive his car. The vehicle was hit with 10 to 12 eggs and an unknown amount of rolls of toilet paper. The incident may have been in retaliation for the boy switching schools.
