The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Jan. 10
Street squabble
11 p.m. — 3200 block of 53rd Avenue East. 
Simple battery. The victim stated he went to the convenience store to bring his uncle home. His uncle was sitting with another homeless male. The victim poured their beers out and disposed of the cans, so they wouldn’t get into trouble for drinking outside of the gas station. As the victim and his uncle began to walk in front of a nearby gas station, the suspect followed them and punched the victim in the neck. The suspect then fled the area and was unable to be located.

Caller ID
5 p.m. — 7300 block of 52nd Place E. Theft $300 to $5,000 from building. The victim reported an unknown person stole his phone. He left his phone at the register and when he returned, it was no longer there. The victim stated the phone was valued at $650.
 

Reported Jan. 11
Home sweet home
2:01 p.m. — 3200 block of 79th Avenue East. 
Grand theft. The victim reported the suspect, who resides with her, removed and pawned her property.

Jan. 11
Down to the wire
5 p.m. — 700 block of 147th Court NE.
Theft of copper. Unknown person(s) cut the copper wire from the utility connectors located on the north exterior of the residence. No entry was made into the residence.

Jan. 13
Busted
6:55 a.m. — 14700 block of Second Avenue Circle Northeast
. Burglary to a structure. A worker arrived at the Medallion Home home site and saw a small silver Hyundai with a smashed back window parked at the rear of the home site. A moment later, he saw a skinny white male leave in the vehicle, heading west. About five minutes later, the same silver Hyundai came back to the scene. The same white male parked in front of the home site and entered the home under construction. Another worked on scene also saw the incident occur. The male suspect once again fled the scene in the vehicle, heading west. The workers already had discovered wiring inside the home under construction had been cut and notified Medallion Home, which called the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Upon the responding deputy’s arrival, he alerted other units to the suspect and suspect vehicle. The suspect was later located in the 500 block of 137th Street East in his vehicle. The suspect was later arrested for the burglary and taken to jail.

Window shopping
7:15 p.m. — 3200 block of 59th Drive East. Burglary to an unoccupied vehicle. Unknown person(s) broke the front driver’s window of the vehicle and removed several items. The person(s) then fled the area and were unable to be located. The vehicle was processed for latent prints.

Crime of opportunity
10:48 p.m. — 10300 block of Myakka Boulevard. Burglary to an unoccupied vehicle. The complainant observed her neighbor walking away with her property that she had in the back of her vehicle. She immediately called police. She advised what she observed to the responding officers. The suspect was arrested and brought to the jail for processing. The complainant recovered her property from her driveway where the suspect had dropped it.
