3:57 p.m. — 500 block of Birdie Lan
e. Lost Property. A woman reported that her $5,000 gold ring with square emerald stones surrounding diamonds disappeared from a dish located next to her nightstand.

Nov. 2
Creepy caller
12:47 p.m. — 10 block of Winslow Place
. Harassing Phone Call. A woman told police a man left two voicemails on her answering machine and left a vulgar comment on each message. She was advised to start a telephone log and fill out a witness statement.

Nov. 9
Social climber?
9:51 a.m. — 500 block of Yardarm Lane
. Larceny. A homeowner reported that someone stole a 32-foot ladder from the rear of his home. The ladder is valued at $350.

Ticket taker
10:01 a.m. — 5900 block of Traffic Violation
. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a truck towing a trailer that had an incorrect tag on it. The driver was issued a ticket for driving with an expired driver’s license, and the improper tag was confiscated.

Sailing SOS
5:25 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD
. Boat. A man called to report trouble with his sailboat, which was found without its rudders in the Gulf of Mexico far from shore. Police located the man on Longboat, after he had swum to shore.

Nov. 10
Shopping switch
12:51 p.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive
. Lost Property. A woman reported that while in a grocery store she misplaced her tan purse, which included a white alligator-skin wallet. Store employees reviewed store tapes and discovered the woman mistakenly put some dairy items in the wrong shopping cart. Her original cart and purse were located.

Business bust
1:15 p.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive.
Soliciting. Police told a woman a town ordinance prohibited her from soliciting business on Longboat Key.

Nov. 11
Night lights
4:30 a.m. — 100 block of GMD
. Suspicious Person. Police noticed two male teenagers riding bicycles without lights while headed northbound on Gulf of Mexico Drive. They were issued verbal warnings for their lack of lights and headed home to Sarasota.

Security check
6:53 p.m. — 3500 block of Fair Oaks Way
. Security Check. Police secured a sliding-glass door at a vacant home.

Nov. 12
Patrol pickup
4:30 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road.
Suspicious Person. Restaurant employees notified police that a homeless person was loitering in the area. Police promised more frequent patrols in the area.

Walkers warned
5:33 p.m. — 2800 block of GMD
. Code Enforcement. Police warned a couple they couldn’t walk their dog on the beach.

Nov. 14
Curb appeal
11:36 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD
. Property Damage. A man reported that a sport utility vehicle or pickup truck drove over a curb in a parking lot and damaged two cement parking stops, one cement barrier, some drain pipes, an electric conduit, some blacktop pavement and a sump pump. The damage is estimated at $1,000.

Quick confession
4:08 p.m. — 100 block of GMD. Narcotics Violation. A police officer noticed that two men became nervous when they saw the officer. The men left behind a cooler, which contained two 12-packs of beer. One of the men was arrested after admitting to being in possession of 12 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Nov. 15
All locked up
9:09 p.m. — 500 block of Juan Anasco Drive
. Suspicious Circumstance. A homeowner called police to report the rear porch door to a home he owns was unlocked. The home was checked before the home was secured.

Nov. 16
Fire extinguisher
1:27 a.m. — 600 block of St. Judes Drive North
. Code Enforcement. A man called to report that one of his neighbors had started a campfire and the smoke was blowing through his house. Police told the neighbor that open burn laws prevent him from starting fires in the neighborhood.

Stolen Schwinn
8:30 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD
. Larceny. A condominium owner believed some construction workers stole his $175 red Schwinn bicycle from the condominium’s parking garage. The bicycle was covered, but it was not locked up.

New leash on life
2:38 p.m. — 5100 block of GMD
. Animal Found. Police caught a black dog that was running loose while dragging a black leash. The Labrador mix had no tags attached to its collar, and Manatee County Animal Control took custody of the dog.
