6:36 p.m.
— 4200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Suspicious Circumstance. Police found a repair van in a condominium parking lot and discovered a repairman was on-site to repair a water heater.

3:15 a.m.
— 3100 GMD. Suspicious Vehicle. A man and a woman were checked out and cleared to leave after they were found parked behind a business after hours.

Fall out
11:34 a.m.
— 100 block of GMD. Disturbance. A pickup truck driver called police to report that a bicyclist had fallen off his bike in front of his truck. The driver felt the need to report the incident, because the bicyclist was blaming him for the fall, even though there was no contact made with the bike.

Multiple citations issued
1:29 a.m.
— 5000 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A woman was pulled over for swerving on Gulf of Mexico Drive. Although she passed field sobriety tests, she agreed not to drive anymore that evening at the request of the police officer. She was issued tickets for failing to maintain her lane and possession of an open container of alcohol in the backseat.

Driving ability questioned
6:08 p.m.
— 4700 block of GMD. Reckless Driving. A woman told police her speed on Gulf of Mexico Drive was ranging from 20 mph to 50 mph because she was lost and having trouble with her car. Police requested the 87-year-old driver take a driver’s license re-examination test.

No fishing after hours
2:11 a.m.
— Overlook Park. Code Enforcement. A man fishing in Overlook Park after hours was given a verbal warning and sent on his way.

5:32 p.m.
— Broadway Beach Access. Found Property. A man turned in a key he found in the Broadway beach access parking lot.

May 9
All fired up
12:50 p.m.
— 500 block of Norton Street. Fire. A woman reported a possible trash fire in the back of a homeowner’s yard. Upon arrival, police found a woman spraying water on what had been a fire consisting of yard clippings. She told police she missed her yard trash pickup day and decided to burn her grass clippings. But the fire got bigger than she expected, and she put it out with the hose. The Fire Rescue Department responded to confirm the fire was out, and the woman was warned of the town’s ordinance preventing open fires.

Tag and license confiscated
5:20 p.m.
— 1600 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a woman for driving in and out of the bicycle lane. The woman had a suspended driver’s license and was issued tickets for failing to pay traffic fines. Police took possession of the woman’s tag and her suspended driver’s license.

House hunter
6:43 p.m.
— 4000 block of GMD. Trespassing. A homeless man told police he was trespassing on private property because he noticed the house was for sale and he was looking for a place to sleep. The man was issued a trespass warning and driven to St. Armands Circle.

Crash course
12:55 p.m.
— 400 block of L’Ambiance Drive. Property Damage. A construction worker told police that a dumpster slid sideways while he attempted to load it onto a truck. It slid into an unoccupied van and punctured two holes in the side of it.

— 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Abandoned 911 Call. Police determined that someone at Town Hall accidentally dialed 911 on one of the telephone lines.

5:05 p.m.
— 5300 block of GMD. Gas Leak. Police could not find a gas leak that was reported in the area.

System failure
9:50 p.m.
— 6700 block of GMD. Security Check. Police responded to a medical alert issued by an alarm system. Police found no one home, and the owner told police he was having problems with the system.

Reinforced rules
10:52 p.m
. — Longboat Pass Bridge. Disturbance. The bridge tender at Longboat Pass Bridge called police because two fishermen refused to leave the area while bridge repairs were being performed. Police made contact with the men and told them the bridge tender is responsible for the safety and welfare of the bridge and that they had to adhere to his request.

— 1200 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. Police found a man riding on a rusty bicycle through Longboat Key with a pair of gloves attached to the handlebars. The man told police he had the gloves because he’s from New York, and it was cold until he arrived in Florida. The man accepted a ride to Anna Maria Island.
