Grand Theft. An 83-year-old woman reported she was the victim of a scam. She received a phone call by someone pretending to be her grandson, who said he was in an accident in Mexico and needed $7,000 wired to him to get bailed out of jail. She sent the money. The next day, she received another call from her “grandson,” who told her he needed another $7,000 to fix the rental car that was damaged in the accident. She sent the money. Later that same day, her “grandson” called again, asking for $6,000 to fix a light pole damaged in the crash. Bank personnel stopped her from sending money a third time and told her to call the sheriff’s office.

The manager called deputies again, and the thief was arrested.
