Weed and roses don't mix
2900 block of 53rd Avenue East           
Retail theft: A man walked into a store and selected some items, concealing some in his backpack. He paid for some of the items and attempted to leave but was stopped by loss prevention staff because of the items in his backpack. The items in the backpack totaled $27.70. When the deputy arrived and searched the man, he found a bag of marijuana and a pipe. The man was arrested. He had to throw out three dozen roses that were in his possession before being transported, as the flowers could not be properly stored.

Down to eight lives
5300 block of Lorraine Road
Animal nuisance: A man was in his back yard at night when he spotted an animal he thought was a bobcat. He has chickens and had a few were eaten by a bobcat recently. He tried to shoo off the animal but it refused, so he got a rifle and shot at it. The animal was actually his neighbor’s cat, and it returned home with a bullet wound. The cat’s owner had heard the shots. The Sheriff’s Office was called and the man became upset when he realized he had shot his neighbor’s cat instead of a nuisance predator. According to the report, the cat does bare some resemblance to a bobcat. The man was not charged as it is not a crime to shoot at an animal attacking livestock. The cat underwent surgery and is recovering well.

Tossing his breakfast
State Road 64 and 60th Street Court East
Battery: A man was driving down the road and tried to make a turn. When he turned, he almost hit the vehicle that was traveling next to him. The other driver got angry and began yelling at the man. The two vehicles were going about 5 mph when the angry driver threw a breakfast burrito through the man’s passenger window. The burrito opened and the contents exploded all over the man’s cab and also got a little on him. When the two vehicles came to a stop the angry driver got out of his car, hoping to confront the man, who stayed in his car. The burrito-splattered man made a report to the Sheriff’s Office but the angry driver was not located.

Intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway
Battery: A man was waving an advertisement sign for a gym when a homeless man approached him. The man said the vagabond started saying nonsense and smelled like alcohol and acted intoxicated. The homeless man then punched the man in the shoulder and ran away.
