July 6
Something’s fishy
12:11 p.m. — 1000 block of GMD.
Larceny. A man told police that someone stole $250 worth of fishing gear that he had left outside his condominium unit.

July 8
Orange you sorry?
11:28 a.m. — 1600 block of GMD
. Larceny. Someone stole a $1,000 bright orange kayak that was locked and secured from behind a vacant resort. Marks in the sand show the kayak was dragged into the Gulf.

Dumpster diving
3:40 p.m. — 6800 block of GMD
. Found Property. A man told police that one of his employees turned over to him a purse, which was found in a Beachplace dumpster. The owner of the purse, who had reported it missing, was located. All of the contents were still inside the purse except for a camera.

July 9
Vacant look
6000 block of GMD. 6000 block of GMD. Security Check. A real-estate agent told police that someone had been on a vacant rental property without permission. Police promised to perform more security checks in the area.

Family lockout
10:06 p.m. — 1000 block of Bogey Lane. Public Service. A woman told police that she and her family locked themselves out of their vacation rental by mistake and the contact information for their rental unit was inside the house. Police provided her with a number, and a rental unit representative arrived to unlock the door.

July 17
‘Extreme Couponing’: The Longboat Key edition
3:40 p.m. — 6700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police that two daily newspapers delivered to a box near his condominium no longer come with extra clip-out coupons and told police he believes that someone has been stealing the coupons and leaving the newspapers inside. The man credited the possible theft to a recent TV series glamorizing the use of coupons.

July 10
Never on Sunday
10:37 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. A construction crew was advised they couldn’t make such loud noise on a Sunday; they agreed to quit for the day.

July 11
Free bike ride
4:34 a.m. — 400 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Two suspicious males were reported leaving the vacant gas station on the north end of the island on bicycles. Police found the men, and one of them admitted he did not own the bike he was riding. The bike was returned, and its owner decided not to press charges.

Big bong theory
12:18 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Narcotics Violation. A man told police he found a bong in some bushes near his condominium complex. Police confiscated the bong and made plans to destroy it.

July 11
False alarm
2:26 p.m. — Avenue of the Flowers. Suspicious Circumstance. Police responded to a report of an audible alarm and found no apparent reason for the alarm to sound.

For tobacco use only
3:36 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. Two men and one woman showed police a bag of loose tobacco and rolling papers, saying that was all they had, when police responded to a report that the group was smoking marijuana on the beach. Police also poured out a half-empty bottle of rum from the trio and showed them a sign stating that alcohol is prohibited on the beach. The woman, who had not been drinking, agreed to drive the two men home.

July 12
No trespassing
1:27 p.m. — 500 block of Shinbone Alley. Trespassing. A man received a written warning for trespassing after police observed his vehicle parked on a side alley within vacant lots that are listed as private property. Police directed the man to the nearest beach access.

July 13
No dogs allowed
8:01 p.m. — 5600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Code Enforcement. A woman received a written warning after police responded to a report of a dog on the beach.

July 15
Big bang theory
8:02 a.m. — 1000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Property Damage. Police completed a property damage report after a 20-year-old man told police that he believed his Land Rover was damaged while the vehicle was in his possession, although he did not know when or where the damage occurred. The man told police that he did not believe he struck anything, although he said he often plays loud music and might not have heard it if he did hit something.

July 15
Help wanted
7:22 p.m. — 500 block of Wedge Lane. Civil Disturbance. A man told police that a painting company he hired more than a month ago has not completed part of the work promised. He has been unable to contact the company’s owner. Police advised that the issue is a civil matter.

July 16
They came up clean
1:08 p.m. — 6500 block of Gulfside Road. Suspicious Person. A woman told police that she and her daughter were cleaning a home for the owner and provided the owner’s name and phone number after police responded to a report of three suspicious persons.

Damage control
3:15 p.m. — 3800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Assist other Agency. Police assisted Sarasota officers in locating a vehicle that was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident on St. Armands Circle. Police observed fresh damage to the passenger side panel and bumper, before Sarasota police arrived to finish their investigation.

7:16 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road. Property Damage. A man admitted to becoming angry with another guest at a hotel pool bar and pushing a lounge chair into a table, causing approximately $385 in damage, before leaving the area. The man agreed to give the hotel manager $400 cash to pay for the damage.

July 17
At least this dog didn’t walk on the beach …
8:52 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Dog Found. A woman told police she would make sure to keep her dog from getting loose, after police found the dog wandering on a street corner.

11:02 a.m. 4900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Report of voices in apartment, possible burglary in progress. Voices found to be a telephone answering machine taking a call.

Down in the mouth
9:59 p.m. 7100 block of Longboat Drive North. Suspicious Person. Subject was walking around carport with flashlight. Subject was looking for mother’s teeth. She takes them out when she drives due to discomfort.
