Jan. 3
Arm is hammered
1:40 p.m. — 8500 block of Turtle Rock Boulevard
. Criminal Mischief. An SUV approached a subdivision’s gate. No one was in the guard house, so a woman got out and lifted up the gate arm to let the SUV pass through. The lifting of the arm caused about $75 in damage. The SUV is registered to a man in Tallahassee.

Jan. 4
Misery shopper
11:10 a.m. — 2500 block of Margaret Street
. Gross Fraud. A woman said she received an offer in the mail to become a mystery shopper. The letter contained a check for $3,997. A bank clerk told her the check was legitimate, so she deposited it. The letter also instructed her to wire back $3,147 after she accepted the check. She did. The mystery-shopper company stopped its check, and the woman was out the $3,147.

Decorating dispute
3:30 p.m. — 4300 block of Camino Madera
. Suspicious Incident. A woman reported her Christmas wreath had been removed from the door where it hung. She said it was the second time that someone disturbed her Christmas decorations. The woman told police she believes someone is trying to kill her, because of a dispute with the homeowners association.

Jan. 5
Pain in the neck
11 a.m. — 1700 South Tamiami Trail.
Suspicious Incident. A man went to the hospital and asked a nurse to remove a BB imbedded in his neck. He said it had been there for 30 years, but he needed it removed, because he was having an MRI and couldn’t have metal in his body.

Don’t leave home without it
2 p.m. — 1600 block of Oak Street
. Theft. A woman reported three rings worth a total of $4,650 were stolen from her jewelry box, while she was away from her home for one hour. She told police there were two workers inside her home while she was away.

Walk it off
3:23 p.m. — South Shade Avenue
. Suspicious Incident. A passerby told police that a man appeared to have a seizure in the street and then got up and continued walking down the street.

Triple dog dare
8:52 p.m. — 900 block of Siesta Drive
. Animal Nuisance. A dog was seen running back and forth across the road, nearly causing several car accidents.

Jan. 6
Three times a lady
1 a.m. — 2500 block of South Tamiami Trail
. Aggravated Battery. A woman drinking with her boyfriend inside a bar became belligerent. She asked a man to light her cigarette, and he did. But when she asked if she could have his lighter and he refused, she spit on him. While she was being escorted out of the bar, she spit on two other customers. The man told police he didn’t want to press charges and only wanted to enjoy the rest of the evening with his friends. But when police told the woman she was not going to be arrested, she started yelling racial insults. Officers then arrested her. She resisted and had to be placed in a spit mask, because she kept trying to spit on
people.
