8:54 p.m. — 6400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Public Drunkenness. Police found a man sleeping on a bench at the intersection of General Harris Street and Gulf of Mexico Drive. He told police he had fallen asleep while listening to a game on the radio and was given a ride to his parents’ house on Lyons Lane.

Jan. 11

Suspicious service
10:07 a.m. — 3400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD)
. Missing Property. A man told police that he believes the Sears repairman stole his $1,875 14-karat, yellow-gold ring from his dresser.

Under pressure
2:12 p.m. — 6900 block of GMD
. Public Service. A plumber called police to report that his manager made him drive his vehicle to work with a tire that had low-air pressure. He felt that it was unsafe and wanted to document the issue in case he had an accident.

Fishy practices
3:18 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive
. Fishing Violation. Police issued a commercial fisherman a citation for retrieving a snook from Sarasota Bay. That type of fish cannot be caught this time of year and it was over the size limit.

Jan. 12
Disturbed sleep
12:10 a.m. — 2000 block of GMD
. Rescue. Police responded to an unknown medical problem and discovered a woman sleeping in her bed. It was determined that she may have inadvertently hit the panic button around her neck while she was sleeping.

Jan. 14
Unlocked vehicle
10:21 a.m. — 600 block of Lyons Lane
. Vehicle Larceny. A man told police that someone entered his unlocked sport utility vehicle in the middle of the night and stole his $250 navigation system.

Parking problems
11:35 a.m. — 400 block of GMD
. Property Damage. A man who backed into a parking space at The Boat House struck a water pipe, which needed to be repaired.

Hindsight is 20/20
10:50 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Traffic Accident. A man backed into a car while he was backing out of his parking space in Avenue of the Flowers.

Bumper cars
11:40 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Traffic Accident. A driver hit another car with his front bumper when attempting to turn into the Avenue of the Flowers parking lot. The driver told police he didn’t see the car coming down the road before he made the turn.

Power struggle
3:30 p.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive
. Civil Disturbance. A man who was upset that he was shocked by an electric current while trying to dig up a bush on his property got into a fight with the homeowners association over who should handle the electrical repair. The man locked up the nearby power box so that no one could open it and told the association he would hire a repairman and send the bill to the association. Because neither party could decide who should handle the repair, the parties were told to find out on whose property the meter actually resides. The power company was also advised to disable the power to the box.

Bicycle accident
4:15 p.m. — Intersection of Gulfside Road and GMD
. Traffic Accident. A man told police he didn’t see a bicyclist when he turned right onto Gulfside Road from Gulf of Mexico Drive. The woman on the bicycle tried to avoid the vehicle, but hit the right side of the man’s truck bed and flipped over the bike’s handlebars. The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her chin, forehead and left wrist.
