April 8
Pave the way
7:46 a.m. — 1100 block of Bogey Lane.
Code Enforcement. An anonymous man called police to report a construction crew was installing a paver driveway before 8 a.m. The construction foreman was informed of the town ordinance and agreed to comply.

Through the roof
2:01 p.m. — 800 block of Bayport Way.
Vehicle Larceny. A man told police that he heard his car alarm going off the night before but didn’t think much of it because his car battery was dying. The next day, he noticed his wife’s $200 sunglasses and a Vera Bradley bag were missing. The suspect entered the car through its open sunroof.

If the horseshoe fits …
5:58 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive.
Trespassing. A man was issued a trespass warning for walking through the Longboat Key Club Moorings marina. The man told police he was a horseshoe fitter by trade and was visiting the area from South Florida after fitting a horse in Palmetto. The man, whose parents own a mobile home on the Key, walked through the guard gate to access the marina by foot because he wanted to look at the boats.

April 9

Staying grounded
5:24 a.m. — 400 block of Longboat Club Road.
Boat Rescue. Police found a 40-foot fiberglass sailboat and three men stranded near the beach on the south end of the island. The boat owner told police they were on their way to Mississippi when a large wave damaged the boat. The boat ran aground while he tried to maneuver into New Pass. The boat was removed at high tide with the help of a salvage company and several boats.

April 10
Sandbar stroll
11:11 a.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road.
Code Enforcement. While on water patrol, police noticed a man walking his three dogs on Beer Can Island. The man agreed to walk his dogs on the sandbar near Jewfish Key instead.

Night to remember
11:12 p.m. – 600 block of Marbury Lane.
Disturbance. A woman called police to report several partygoers walking in the street toward the beach. A teenager told police he had permission from his parents to bring several friends to his house after a prom in Tampa. The mother confirmed the teenager’s story, and the group agreed to keep the noise down.

April 11
Early-morning greeters
4:35 a.m. — 800 block of Longboat Club Road.
Suspicious Circumstance. Police were unable to locate a man and a woman reportedly ringing doorbells in the area.

The music man
8:52 a.m. — 700 block of Lyons Lane.
Noise Disturbance. Police responded to a noise complaint and discovered music blaring from the second story of a home. The homeowner, who told police he had hearing problems, agreed to turn the music down.

Lost and found
3:08 p.m. — 5300 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD).
Public Service. Police saw a boy walking on the north side of Gulf of Mexico Drive by himself. The boy told police he got separated from his cousins and told police where he was staying on the Key. He was reunited with his dad.

Truck stop
8:15 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive.
Trespassing. The dock master of Longboat Key Club Moorings Marina called police to report a man who was sleeping in his truck in the parking lot. The man was issued a trespass warning.

April 12
Eagle scouts
8:19 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD.
Animal Rescue. A man told police that he found a bald eagle with an injured wing. While waiting for a wildlife-rescue service, the bird began to swim toward open water and was guided back to land by police and Key residents. The wildlife service said the bird was not seriously injured and treated it.

Bar none
1:54 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Trespassing. Police observed a man and a woman drinking beer at a picnic table in front of the Longboat Key Publix. The store manager issued the two trespass warnings.

April 13
Hedge your bets
11:25 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD.
Larceny. A woman reported that two bicycles were discovered propped against a hedge on her condominium property. They were collected and stored at the police department. A woman later claimed the bikes and said someone must have taken them and abandoned them near the hedge a few blocks away.

Noisy fight
4:39 p.m. — 600 block of Kingfisher Lane.
Animal Nuisance. A couple said that two Labrador/Dalmatian mix dogs they were taking care of began fighting with each other. A nearby homeowner had reported hearing the noise.

April 14
Car burglary
10:16 a.m. — 500 block of Gunwale Lane.
Vehicle Larceny. A woman reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of her home, pulled the center console away from the dashboard and stole the car’s built-in navigational system and stereo system.

What a pill
11:05 a.m. — 5300 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. The owner of an art-and-clothing store reported that a woman tried on a pair of white pants and attempted to leave the store in them. The woman took off the pants that she was trying to steal and left behind 29 pills in one of the front pockets.

Sign-in situation
11:16 a.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive.
Civil Disturbance. Police were called again to the scene of an ongoing dispute between the manager of Longboat Key Club Moorings marina and a boat contractor who refuses to sign a sign-in sheet before entering the marina. Police told the contractor if they were called out again, he would be issued a trespass warning and he wouldn’t be allowed back to work on his clients’ boats.

Navigation system swiped
4:47 p.m. — 500 block of Gunwale Lane.
Vehicle Larceny. A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle parked in her driveway and stole a $300 navigation system from the center console.
