June 30
When sparks fly
4:30 p.m.
— 600 block of St. Judes Drive North. Fire. Police observed power lines sparking near some trees behind a home and stood by until the power company fixed the problem.

Double trouble
10:40 p.m.
— 5300 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police observed a man driving below the speed limit while weaving. The driver admitted to drinking a piña colada and smoking some marijuana earlier. The man was given a ride home to Bradenton Beach.

July 1
Habitual offender arrested
3:19 p.m.
— Off the Key. Traffic Violation. A man was pulled over for diving with an expired tag, and police discovered he was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Police arrested the habitual traffic offender.

Off day
5:24 p.m.
— 6800 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. Police notified a homeowner that he was only allowed to water his lawn on Mondays.

July 4
Not a day at the beach
5:29 p.m.
— 300 block of North Shore Road. Suspicious Vehicle. A woman reported that a suspicious cargo van was parked in front of a home that’s currently unoccupied. The van’s occupants, who were found on the beach, were told they were trespassing.

July 5
Tag, you’re it
9:32 a.m.
— 5800 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A man was pulled over for an obscured van tag. Police seized the tag and confiscated the owner’s driver’s license.

Possible jewelry theft
4:41 p.m.
— 600 block of Longboat Club Road. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police she was missing jewelry from her home, although she said she might have misplaced it. She told police she would check with her caregivers and attorneys before preceding any further.

July 6
Wiley coyote
7:28 p.m.
— 100 block of Lighthouse Point Drive. Animal Nuisance. Police responded to a reported coyote running loose in the Lighthouse Point neighborhood. The animal was not aggressive and did not appear to be afraid of police. After numerous attempts, police were unable to capture the coyote.

July 7
Rules of engagement
10:03 a.m.
— 700 block of St. Judes Drive. Civil Matter. Police responded to a nonviolent domestic dispute in which a man took his wife’s purse while she attempted to pack her belongings and move out of the residence. The man said he would not return the purse because he wanted the engagement ring he had given her returned first. Police told the couple that the situation was a civil matter. The man returned his wife’s purse.
