July 8
Too close for comfort
2:25 p.m.
— 4600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Boat Violation. A resort manager reported a pontoon boat was too close to people and the beach. Police told the boat operator she was operating her boat in a dangerous manner, and she agreed to move further away.

July 9
Welfare check
6:38 p.m.
— 900 block of Spanish Drive South. Welfare Check. Police responded to a request for a welfare check on a woman. When she didn’t answer the door, neighbors showed police a hidden key to the home. Police found that the woman had fallen while using her walker and needed help getting up. She sustained minor injuries but refused a ride to the hospital for further evaluation.

Security guards
12:55 a.m.
— 400 block of GMD. Security Check. A rear door of a restaurant was discovered unlocked, but the security alarm went off when police pulled the door open. The restaurant owner arrived to secure the business.

Eviction postponed
10:38 a.m.
— 6800 block of GMD. Civil Disturbance. A shopping-center owner changed the lock on one of his tenants’ doors without filing the proper paperwork to begin the eviction-notice process. The tenant, who is three months behind on her rent, agreed to vacate her space by the end of the month and pay as much back rent as she can.

Crash course
3:49 p.m.
— 100 block of North Shore Road. Assist Other Agency. Police responded to a report of a drunken boater who hit the Longboat Pass Bridge and ran his boat aground. Upon arrival, police discovered the U.S. Coast Guard was investigating a two-boat crash that was part of the same incident.

Traffic offender arrested
4:35 p.m.
— 6900 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man for driving with an expired tag, and he was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and with an expired tag.

July 11
Abandoned bike
7:29 a.m.
— 5500 block of GMD. Found Property. Police could not find the owner of a bicycle left in Joan M. Durante Park.

July 12
Bike stolen from shop
10:23 a.m.
— 5600 block of GMD. Business Larceny. A bicycle-shop owner reported that someone stole an unlocked $1,000 Fuji bicycle from in front of his store while it was closed. Police suggested the owner lock up his bicycles up in the future.

Suspect found
2:58 p.m.
— 3700 block of GMD. Assist Other Agency. Police located a man the Florida Highway Patrol believed was involved in a hit-and-run accident. The man denied being in the area at that time, and police passed along the information.

Stare down
8:58 p.m.
— 200 block of North Shore Road. Suspicious Person. A woman reported that her daughter saw a suspicious man standing in the bushes and staring at her while she was getting into her car. The woman believes it could have been one of the workers who was working on a nearby condominium. Police couldn’t locate the subject.

July 13
Message mishap
1:36 a.m.
— 3600 block of GMD. Disturbance. A couple got into an argument over some text messages the woman was receiving from her ex-boyfriend. Both parties decided they could get along the rest of the night without any supervision.

Sports fanatic
9:04 a.m.
— 4000 block of GMD. Suspicious Vehicle. Police observed a man sitting in his car watching people play tennis and determined there were no violations.

July 14
Missing kayaker found
12:04 a.m.
— 3400 block of GMD. Missing Person. Police and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office began searching for a man who had become separated from his brother while kayaking in Sarasota Bay. The man was later located in the 4400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive, and the search was called off.
